The Great Laxmi Puja Festival In India

Laxmi Puja is a great Hindu festival in India that falls on the new moon day of the month of October. Laxmi Puja is a great festival because all religious peoples are celebrating together.

Laxmi Puja is dedicated to Maa Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth, prosperity & peace. The Goddess Maa Laxmi loves for cleanliness and first visit to the most cleaned house. So people decorate their cleaned house with oil lamps, candles, electric lights & colorful rangolis. The oil lamps are lit from evening to till morning.

According to  'Laxmi Purana' the Hindu epic,

Once an untouchable woman named 'Shreeya' worshipped to Goddess Laxmi. Maa Laxmi pleased with her prayer & visited Shreeya's house. When Lord Balabhadra & Lord Jagannatha came to know about this, they not allowed Goddess Laxmi to come back into the temple. Laxmi was deeply hurt and left the temple. After left, the all stored wealthy & foods in the temple started vanishing. When the Gods Balabhadra and Jagannatha fell hungry they couldn't find food in the temple. They came out of the temple in the attire of Brahmin beggars for the search of food. They beg one door to another but didn't get any food. At last, they came to a door & beg for food. They are welcomed to the house & gave foods. After having the foods they come to know that  Maa Laxmi gave the foods. They realized there mistake & request Goddess Laxmi to return the temple.

Festivity Takes Place

Laxmi Puja is an important occasion in India. Some days before the occasion people start decorated the town. Through bamboo, they build very tall illuminated gates. They make many puja pandals & idols. The main & big idol is the Maa Laxmi seat or stands on a lotus. Lotus is the most favorite flower of Goddess Lakshmi.
While this festivity takes place, so many people came from other states. They display their exclusive traditional dance, foods & beautifully handcrafted items, toys & many more items. There are all types of shop temporary place for the occasion.

After the eleven days of Laxmi puja festival, a street-carnival sets up in town to the immersion ritual. Puja committees along with many devotees are seen on the roads amidst colorful processions. Especially the animal mask dance, chhau & tribal dance, music etc. are watching during the bhasani ceremony.
