The Dhanteras festival falls in the month of Oct-Nov on the 13th day of the dark fortnight. This festival is celebrated two days before the  Diwali festival.
Dhanteras is a great festival in Hindu culture.
On Dhanteras, The Goddess Laxmi, Lord Vishnu's, Lord Ganesha & Lord Kuber are worshiped to provide prosperity and wealth. It is also the day for celebrating wealth, as the word 'Dhan' literally means wealth and 'Tera'.

How is Dhanteras Celebrated

For a great welcomed to the Goddess Laxmi, Lord Vishnu's, Lord Ganesha & Lord Kuber In the evening, many lamps are listed and  Rangoli designs are drawn on pathways including the goddess' footprints to mark the arrival of  Lakshmi. Aartis or devotional songs eulogizing for Goddess Lakshmi with variety sweets & fruits are offered.
People buy gold or silver jewelry or utensils to venerate the occasion of Dhanteras. All wear new clothes and jewelry as they light the first lamp of Diwali.

According to the Hindu myth

The Lord Dhanteras
was born on the day of Dhanteras during the Sagar Manthan. Two days after the birth of Dhanvantari, Goddess Laxmi appeared. Therefore, the festival of Dhanteras is celebrated two days before Deepawali. Lord Dhanvantari is considered to be the physician of Deities and an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. God Dhanvantari appeared with Ayurvedic for the well-being of mankind.

The story of King Hima's son
It was predicted about King Hima's son that he would pass on the fourth day of his marriage and the reason would be snakebite. At the point when his intelligent wife came to know about such an expectation, she made an arrangement. On the fourth day of their marriage, she gathered all the pieces of jewelry at the passage of the resting chamber and lit lights each alcove and corner of the place.
